"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where –" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.
"– so long as I get somewhere," Alice added as an explanation.

"Oh, you're sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."

Caucus-Rennen und was daraus wird.

                        Filax sprach zu
                            der Maus, die
                                    er traf
                                      in dem
                                        Haus:
                                     »Geh' mit
                                    mir vor
                                   Gericht,
                                 daß ich
                               dich
                              verklage.
                              Komm und
                               wehr' dich
                                 nicht mehr;
                                  ich muß
                                   haben ein
                                      Verhör,
                                     denn ich
                                       habe
                                    nichts
                                   zu thun
                                  schon
                                 zwei
                                Tage.«
                              Sprach die
                             Maus zum
                            Köter:
                           »Solch
                             Verhör,
                              lieber Herr,
                                 ohne
                                Richter,
                              ohne
                            Zeugen
                             thut nicht
                                  Noth.«
                                 »Ich bin
                                Zeuge,
                              ich bin
                             Richter,«
                            sprach
                              er schlau
                                und schnitt
                                 Gesichter,
                                 »das Verhör
                                  leite ich
                                       und
                                 verdamme
                                dich
                              zum
                                 Tod!«

Jabberwocky

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Lewis Carroll
